Henry Purcell: Sacred Music - Girls' Choir and Lay Clerks of Canterbury Cathedral.

Twenty two girls are singing with the Lay Clerks (men's voices) on this CD directed by Cathedral Assistant Organist David Newsholme and with Matthew Wadsworth playing a theorbo (a stringed instrument from the lute family) and with organists Adrian Bawtree and William Wallace.

The Girls' Choir of Canterbury Cathedral was founded in 2014 and its members, aged between 12 and 18, were admitted to the Cathedral Foundation in early 2016.  Since the launch, which received international media coverage, the choir has sung on such notable occasions as the service held to mark the twentieth anniversary of the ordination of women priests and at a service of dedication and unveiling of two royal statues, attended by HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.
